In Sociology, the teacher gave us this case study of Tea Room trade or something. Basically, about gay or bisexual men who into public toilets for casual sex with men they have never met.
I was disgraced, not particularly by the subject, but by the study. I thought it was extremely biased, and I failed to find any point of it which even tried to weigh out the story.
I told the teacher I thought it was very biased, and she said it was not biased "because it's in sociology textbook". I was instructed not to write about it being biased. And all I wrote was that it was biased.
And I have come to a conclusion that Sociology in general is quite biased.
Hmm.

But my main problem was how can you look at a biased study in a way which is not in itself biased?
And Sociology is not meant to be about forming your opinions and sticking to them.
Grrr. Education is crap.

I wish I had been taught toilet sex in the classroom. When do you learn the hanky code? I still don't know that one. A bit useless these days though. marknyc

*grumbles*
The most homosexuality I ever had in school was the back of a sex-ed booklet that said;
"Most teenagers become attracted to a member of the same sex. it's normal and healthy and you will probably grow out of it."
I mean it REALLY said that.
I didnt grow out of it. Bloody booklet.

the "hanky code" ? whassat ? in the seventies, gay men used to hang handkerchiefs out their back pockets. The colors represented what kind of sex they were interested in. If you see the film Cruising with Al Pacino they explain it a bit.

There's a joke to be made about sneezing on a hanky and people thinking you like whatever green means.
But i'm not the one to make it.
