Okay, so they're not 'pop' pop but they were the best band for a while. they had such great tunes like Monday Morning 5:19, I Dream A Dream, Summers Over, WHen We're Together and their two albums were corkers. Absolutely brilliant. SInger Louis eliot is solo now and his single Everybody Loves You When You;re Dead is great. www.louiseliot.com

Ooh, Rialto! They were genius. As well as the song's you said, I loved Untouchable.
"If you were an angel, I would cut off your wings To keep you with me, I would do anything"
Aah, the days when indie didn't mean rubbish dreary guitars and singers who can't sing.
In the same vein, anyone remember My Life Story? They were amazing orchestral indie pop, if that makes sense, and I had such a schoolboy crush on Jake Shillingford.
I assume the Rialto stuff can't be found in the shops anymore? I'll have to try on eBay.

charity shops seem to be full of rialto gems.
it's such a shame they got kicked to the curb so many times.
on their second album, there;s a track called shatterproof whic is very untouchable.
did you not think that that pulp song with all thelookalikes in the video was a rip off of untouchable.

I'll have to reinvestigate charity stores around here. I haven't managed to find any Rialto stuff in them, but I haven't looked very hard.
I think they were probably doomed to failure from the moment that Brian Molko said he was a Rialto fan.
Don't remember that Pulp video - which song was it?!

. SInger Louis eliot is solo now and his single Everybody Loves You When You;re Dead is great. www.louiseliot.comi saw him supporting at a gig last year, and he really wasnt up to snuff - he had this song "magpie sunrise" or something with the most awful clumsy lyrics - was sittign next to a gitrl who worked in Waterstones and offered to pay her money if she would sell him a rhyming dictionary. he was following a really nervous solo girl doing her first gig ever, who got big applause, and it was only when he did monday monring 5.19 that i remebered the tune and video and that he'd once been more famous. She was better than he was by a country mile.

the pulp song was called bad cover version, which, looking back, was rather fitting, bearing in mind it was almost a note for note copy of untouchable.

I loved their album that had a picture of vegas on, or something.... what was the single that came with free playing cards?

Yes indeed, they don't make songs like that nowadays do they!
I *think* the single that came with free playing cards must have been Strumpet. I didn't get any playing cards, but I remember it had a deck of cards on the cover.

Yes there was. If I'm right, their singles were in order: I saw them live at a mini-festival thing in Manchester when It's a Girl Thing came out. I was literally the only person there who had a clue who they were. They were supporting Shed Seven and Pureessence Theaudience were there as well, as were a pre-success Toploader, who were on at about 2pm and were watched by about 10 people.

Jake Shillingford was last seen doing some on line only music project thing, a la Dave "The Great Satan" Stewart. I am predisposed to believe it to be pish, despite the ace-ish-ness of MLS, becase of it's links to the said Evil One.
As for Rialto, "The Underdogs" was the best thing they done, altho The Unmighty Turin Brakes sullied it by making a song with the same title.

I only bought that My Life Story CD for 12 Reasons - even if it is a direct rip-off chord-wise of Tunnel of Love by the Colourfield - it's a brilliant song, love it when the drums kick in at the beginning. Bloody awful version of The Stranglers Duchess on there though.

Re: MLS I particularly liked Funny Ha Ha off Mornington Crescent (I think) and fondly remember their Valentine's Day show at ULU once upon a time. They were supported by the immeasurably fabulous Orlando but I won't get started on them now.
I remember a great review of a single of theirs when Mr Reviewer described in detail a cat "Un-eating the apple".
